Words can destroy marriages and words can build marriages. Remember, it is not only what you say with your mouth, it is also what you say with your heart. Romans 10:6 tells us, “Do not say in your heart.” Do not say what? Don’t say God cannot heal my marriage, don’t say there is no hope for my marriage.
A heart divided from its mouth cannot receive the blessings of the Lord. Jesus says:
Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” -Matthew 12:34
Your tongue is a delivery system. A system is a delivery process. You have the educational system, the judicial system, the financial system etc. These are processes designed to deliver a certain function. Your tongue will deliver life or death, so be careful what you say.
Don’t Develop a Coalition of Speaking Evil
Acts 5:1-11 tells a story of a couple who developed a coalition to speak lies. When you read the story you will understand the dreadful mistake this couple made. It cost them their lives. Couples often agree in a coalition to do wrong or to speak evil of others. In Galatians 6:7, “Do not be deceived God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.”
Don’t bad-mouth your leaders, not even under your breath, And don’t abuse your betters, even in the privacy of your home. Loose talk has a way of getting picked up and spread around. Little birds drop the crumbs of your gossip far and wide.” -Ecclesiastes 10:20 (MSG)
God Responds to Our Words
In Daniel 10:12. “Then he said to me, “Do not fear, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand, and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard; and I have come because of your words.” The Angel of the Lord appeared to Daniel because of his words. What words are you speaking over your marriage? Sometimes we explain our problems to the Lord; “My wife complains too much”, “My husband doesn’t talk to me”. Stop explaining your problems and say what you need. Say what you want to see in your relationship! St John 15:7. Jesus said, “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.”
Mark 11:22-23. Jesus again says, “Whosoever will say to this mountain.” The word will work for whosoever. The only people it won’t work for are those who don’t speak God’s Words.
