Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And He said to the woman, Has God indeed said, you shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said to the serpent, we may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden, but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, you shall not eat it nor shall you touch it lest you die. Then the serpent said to the woman, you will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it, your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil. So, when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her and he ate (Gen3:1-6)
So, the Lord God said to the serpent: because you have done this, you are cursed more than all cattle. And more than every beast of the field, on your belly you shall go, and you shall eat dust all the days of your life. And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your sees and her seed, he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel (Gen 3:14-15)
According to the order of authority instituted by the Lord at creation, man was directly under the authority of the Lord God, while the woman was created to assist him. They were in charge of the earth and all the creatures in it. The serpent too was supposed to be under their authority, taking instructions from them.
Things were going on well according to God’s order until one day when Satan disguised himself inside the serpent and came to tempt the woman to disobey God. She was tempted to eat the fruit which the Lord God commanded them not to eat. She took the decision to eat that fruit, independent of God and of her husband, thus disregarding the authority of both. As the woman communed with the serpent and took his counsel, trouble started. She was deceived. Secret love for the things of the world made her to become a friend of the devil. She ate the forbidden fruit and also gave to her husband and he ate. As she obeyed the instructions of the serpent, she also in turn, gave instructions to her husband. Her husband became her subject. That was a clear reversal of the divine order of authority in the home and on earth.
As soon as the man and his wife disobeyed God and ate the fruit, the wages of sin (death) came upon them. Something died in them. They lost their authority and they became separated from God.
The woman’s secret communion with the devil, the lust of the flesh, the desire for good food, the lust of the eyes, the pride of the life and the desire to be wise, led to the fall of all mankind.
As soon as that happened, they lost their glorious estate and it was as if the woman was going to be hopeless forever.
It was as if everything about God’s glorious plan for her was lost forever. But God is ever loving and kind. The merciful and the only wise God, who cannot be held to ransom, stretched forth a loving hand even at that point to rescue them and all mankind. He, who takes the enemy in his craftiness, came in to announce the strategy of victory for the woman and for mankind in the battle against Satan the enemy.
When the lord God pronounced that judgment, it came upon both the physical and the spiritual serpent. As the physical serpent allowed the devil to pass through it to deceive the woman, it has been under that curse till today. And the spiritual serpent, Satan the devil was also not spared.
Praise God he has been cursed. Whereas God made room for the redemption of mankind from that fall, there was no such provision for the devil to be redeemed. He is forever accursed. It is important to note that womankind has a vital role to play in carrying out the written judgment on the serpent, also called Satan the devil. That again proves the love of God to the woman. Every woman has a role to play on earth to enforce that judgment upon the devil.
