The CLC Marriage Retreat was a fantastic opportunity for married couples of all ages to talk about marriage in more detail and to intentionally spend time communicating with one another in its many forms. We also listened to great teachings which were presented by a variety of experienced speakers, with the aim to aid us in our respective relationships.
On a day-to-day basis we generally get inundated with life’s full schedule which is filled with many tasks and due to this we often forget about one another and easily lose sight of our relationship.
A source stated that, “the average duration of marriages ending in divorce reached 12 years in 2016” – at the time this was the second highest figure on record, what’s more is that the most popular reason for divorce was due to “unreasonable behaviour”, in fact statistics found that “36 per cent of all husbands, 51 per cent of all wives” filed for divorce due to this very reason (Patrick Scott, 2018).
From this what we have learned is that, without lessons it is hard to learn what is right and what is important information to consider when on the journey in marriage and therefore, some of the behaviours which we operate in may be unreasonable, but may also be without recognition. To conclude, we now know that it is extremely important to learn and be equipped in our relationship as this will prolong the chances for a happy, long and healthy marriage.
As for being a young couple, the wisdom and knowledge which was transferred at the Marriage Retreat is something that we truly cannot buy, but are indeed very grateful for.
We look forward to our next Marriage Retreat in 2020, see you there.
