Worship in Spirit and in truth
What is worship? What is worship to you?
Most people would say it’s a time during service where we sing. And that’s partly true.
Singing is a part of worship, but that’s not all of it. Worship is more than that, so don’t get caught up on the singing. Some of my greatest worship experience is without singing at all.
Worship is the activity of glorifying God is his presence with our voices and hearts.
Every thing we do in our lives should be an act of worship to the glory of God, not just for the time we set aside on Sunday/ Wednesday.
In Exodus 7, God commanded pharaoh to let his people go so they can worship him.
Worship is the direct expression of our ultimate purpose for living to glorify God and to enjoy him forever.
Worship is our outward display of our inward believe.
It’s a privilege and an honour.
How do we worship? What makes worship worship?
In John 4:20-24 Jesus met the woman of Samaria and she said “our ancestors worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem. (Jesus was trying to explain to her, WHERE wasn’t important, (He’s not just in a temple, or on a mountain, He is spirit, so we can worship him whenever and wherever. He is not in any one place, or one particular church.
But Jesus was saying the real issue isn’t where you worship, but how you worship.
Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”
Part of the controversy was WHERE
That’s why when Jesus came to Mary and Martha house, Mary took the opportunity to sit at the feet of Jesus in their home, (Jesus is everywhere) What makes worship, worship- In spirit means your whole heart is involved. Romans 12:1 offering our bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God.
So, if you don’t have a spiritual life style or your spirit is dead then you can’t worship in spirit.
Luke 10 v40
But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”
“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
Mary knew and understood the importance of being at the feet of Jesus. She was taking care of her soul.
Some how she knew that being close to him, and hearing what he had to say was important. She was not going to let this special moment, and opportunity pass her by. (one of my special moments is worshiping God corporally on a Sunday, so don’t let that pass you by).
IN TRUTH. What does that mean in short? Worship with a true heart, with. With a sincere heart, not going through the motion. But its real.
IN TRUTH: means According to the word. We believe, trust and confess God to be who he said he is.
